Propane

Propane is stored in portable tanks located in unlocked compartments at the front of the RV. The compartments must remain unlocked so the tanks can be accessed in the event of a fire.

The propane system is fairly simple:

  • Propane tanks

  • Regulator

  • Changeover Valve

  • Appliances

Here is an excellent article on the basics of an RV propane system, and its associated safety regulations.

The Changeover Valve may be the most misunderstood piece of the system. The valve is designed so that, with both tanks open, when one tank runs empty the valve will automatically switch to the other tank. The Green/Red indicator simply shows whether or not propane is detected in the tank that the valve is pointing towards. The switch does not make propane flow - it simply shows if there is propane available.
