Update to the Thermostat...

Well - I described the troubleshooting method for my thermostat issue in Texas Toast, and was sure the problem was a bad thermostat.

My troubleshooting skills were spot on - it was the thermostat. But it wasn’t in the mechanism.

When I pulled the thermostat off the wall, the “yellow” wire (which sends the 12v signal to the compressor) was loose at the wire nut. A simple reconnection of the wire and twist the wire nut, and we had A/C again.

Moral of the story…do your troubleshooting, but physically take the part out and make sure it’s not just a simple wire connection problem.

I now have a spare thermostat for the day that mine really does konk out - if that day ever comes.
