Slot Canyons, Southern Utah
Slot canyons are prevalent throughout the Southern Utah “Color Country”, but they can be elusive. There are a few very popular slots in Northern Arizona just outside of Page that get a lot of press, but in the 40 to 50 years we’ve been vacationing and exploring the area, we were never able to find one.
We stopped at the Grand Staircase Escalante Visitor Center in Cannonvile, Utah and asked the ranger if they could give us any tips. She pointed us to Willis Creek, a short 9 mile drive from Cannonville.
A short walk downstream of maybe 100 yards from the parking lot revealed an amazing slot canyon that has now become one of our new favorite explorations when we are in the Bryce Canyon/Zion area of Southern Utah. And, we’ll keep looking for more slots!
